Brown Sugar Cookies

These Brown Sugar Cookies will warm your heart and make your tastebuds dance. A delicious favorite to leave out for Santa 🎅 or for any time of the year! Perfect for a special occasion or just a mid season pick-me-up.

Makes about 8 dozen cookies (they go fast!)

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup softened shortening (or butter)

  2. 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  3. 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  4. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  5. 1/2 teaspoon water (or more)

  6. 2 eggs

  7. 2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour

  8. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  9. 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Beat shortening or butter, sugars, vanilla, water and eggs until light and fluffy.

  2. Mix flour with soda and salt; blend into shortening mixture.

  3. Drop heaping teaspoons 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheets.

  4. Bake at 375° F for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown. (Especially edges and bottom)

  5. Let cool and enjoy! ♡

This recipe is derived from a different classic cookie recipe in my family. The chocolate-chip-less variation has always been my favorite. Now it has its own recipe! 🍪

Notes:

The secret to this recipe is to be generous with the water. Adding a little extra water helps them stay really soft even days after baking.

You can also add chocolate chips, nuts, M&Ms, brownies, any candy that works in a cookie. Use a whole packet, or halve recipe using 1 cup chips.
